Throwback to Daisy Day at the peace walls

This day 4 years ago (just days before the UK went into lockdown), as part of a project for the Department of Justice, Studio idir with Startling Start hired a vintage camper van and drove it around the Alliance Avenue / Glenbryn Park peace wall, making regular stops to chat with local residents about what they would like to happen to the peace wall at the bottom of their gardens.  We displayed our visuals and models in and on the cheerful yellow van, and offered cups of tea, lollies, Daisy badges and kids’ activities to anyone who stopped by.  We had been told people wouldn’t speak to us, as outsiders, and we’d have to hold separate meetings in public buildings either side of the wall…but sometimes you can just do something so out there that it sidesteps the binaries of a place like Belfast and brings a bit of fun for everyone, and within that there is space for some real conversations about important things.  Simon Mills made us a brilliant 2 minute video that captures the day.  You can watch it here.
